Less clothes, more time and space

G'day, this is a short post on my surprise after decluttering my wardrobe.
On Saturday morning I decided that I was going to clean out a few items from my wardrobe. I'd written the clothing rules in my 15 ways to get started and I was aiming to achieve ten of those. I figured that I didn't have that many clothes so I could knock this job over pretty quickly.
Well I will say that it was easy to cull down the number of clothes, but it was not quick. Sometimes I poke fun at Zoe for all the clothes that she has but damn, I had a lot of shit. I reckon I put away a whole square cube of crap away. There are probably over 100 pieces there, more maybe.
So after a few hours (I know) I had sorted the clothes into four piles.
Love
Like
Tolerate
Why do I even have this
Surprisingly I didn't have that many clothes in the love pile so I went to dig into the like pile to fill the numbers. not accounting for work clothes, my final list looked like this.
10 shirts
5 pants
3 jumpers/jackets
4 pajamas (2 top and 2 bottom)
4 gym/active shorts
5 gym/active singlets/shirts
31 pieces of clothing. No limit on briefs and socks, that would be weird and more than a little unhygienic.
Now here is the unexpected consequence. It turns out that all the clothes I had there compromised of the 80% of clothes I wear 80% of the time. Also, my drawers are really only half full now, making it super easy to pick and put away clothes. Especially when using the clothes roll method which allows you to see all the clothes that you have to wear while making use of the height of the drawer. Give it a go, you'll see what I'm aiming at.
I surprised myself by seeing how much garbage I tote around and barely use. Those clothes are now in a bag in the house, I figure it would be super wasteful to throw everything out so I kept the clothes I liked and threw out the tolerate pile. So now if I split a pair of shorts or stain a shirt (which happens carelessly often), I can go to the bag and replace.
Give it a go, it will take some time to get done but you will feel great afterwards. You can keep the clothes you like and throw the rest. Just make sure by the end of it you've got your 31 items. It will make your life easier and cleaner.
As always, Go Slow and Be Simple.
